I. GENERAL RULES
01. BE RESPECTFUL
• Treat other members with respect. Harassment, bullying, discrimination, personal attacks, threats, or intentionally creating a hostile environment will not be tolerated. Disagreements happen, but they should remain civil.
02. KEEP IC & OOC SEPARATE• In-character conflict is not out-of-character conflict. Characters are allowed to dislike, argue with, fight, or otherwise oppose one another without that hostility carrying over to the players involved.
• Likewise, personal disagreements between players should not be brought into the roleplay.
03. NO SPAM OR UNSOLICITED ADVERTISING• Likewise, personal disagreements between players should not be brought into the roleplay.
• Keep posts relevant to the board or thread in which they are posted. Avoid unnecessary double posting and excessive bumping. Advertising other communities or services is only permitted in areas specifically designated for it.
04. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE• Do not take another person's writing, characters, artwork, templates, systems, or other original material and present it as your own. When outside resources require credit, provide it.
05. THERE IS NO ACTIVITY REQUIREMENT• Real life comes first. Characters will not be deleted simply because a player has been away from the site.
• Inactive or abandoned threads and records may occasionally be moved to an archive to keep the forum organized. Returning players are always welcome to resume playing.
06. DO NOT CIRCUMVENT SUSPENSIONS OR BANS• Inactive or abandoned threads and records may occasionally be moved to an archive to keep the forum organized. Returning players are always welcome to resume playing.
• Members may not knowingly allow a suspended or banned player to use their account or otherwise assist them in bypassing restrictions placed on their access to the site.
07. USE COMMON SENSE• No set of rules can account for every possible situation. Finding a technicality or loophole does not automatically make something permissible.
• Deliberately exploiting the wording of a rule or game system to gain an unfair advantage may still be treated as rule-breaking.
• Deliberately exploiting the wording of a rule or game system to gain an unfair advantage may still be treated as rule-breaking.
II. ROLEPLAY RULES
01. CHARACTERS MUST BE APPROVED
• Characters must be reviewed and accepted by staff before participating in the IC portions of the forum.
02. THERE IS NO MINIMUM WORD COUNT• Calpheon Wilds welcomes writers of all experience levels. Posts should contain enough substance for other participants to reasonably respond to and continue the scene.
• Quality and interaction are more important than length.
03. NO GODMODDING OR POWERPLAYING• Quality and interaction are more important than length.
• You control your own character and Pokémon—not someone else's.
• Do not dictate another character's thoughts, actions, injuries, reactions, or decisions without the player's permission. The same applies to Pokémon belonging to another player.
• Actions against another character should generally be written as attempts, allowing the other player an opportunity to determine an appropriate response.
• Characters and Pokémon are expected to experience reasonable consequences. They cannot automatically dodge every attack, succeed at every action, or escape every dangerous situation unharmed.
04. NO METAGAMING• Do not dictate another character's thoughts, actions, injuries, reactions, or decisions without the player's permission.
• Player knowledge and character knowledge are separate.
• Information learned by reading another thread, profile, staff post, private conversation, or other OOC source does not automatically become something your character knows.
• Your character must reasonably discover information through roleplay or another legitimate in-character source.
05. GIVE OTHER PLAYERS A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE• Information learned by reading another thread, profile, staff post, private conversation, or other OOC source does not automatically become something your character knows.
• Your character must reasonably discover information through roleplay or another legitimate in-character source.
• When participating in group threads, avoid repeatedly advancing a scene without allowing the other participants reasonable opportunities to respond.
• There is no universal posting order unless the participants or moderator establish one, but everyone involved should be given an opportunity to contribute.
06. COMMUNICATE ABOUT MAJOR CONSEQUENCES• There is no universal posting order unless the participants or moderator establish one, but everyone involved should be given an opportunity to contribute.
• Do not permanently kill, maim, rob, capture, or otherwise cause major lasting consequences to another player's character or Pokémon without appropriate player consent or staff involvement where required.
• Conflict is allowed. Removing another player's ability to control the future of their character is not.
07. MARK COMPLETED OR PAUSED THREADS• Conflict is allowed. Removing another player's ability to control the future of their character is not.
• When possible, indicate when a thread has been finished, abandoned, or temporarily placed on hold. This helps staff and other players understand which threads remain active.
III. CHARACTERS & POKÉMON
01. CHARACTERS
• All player characters must be human and at least 18 years old.
02. CHARACTERS MUST FIT THE SETTING• Calpheon Wilds takes place in a primitive world. Characters should be written according to the knowledge, technology, resources, and culture available within the setting.
• Modern technology, knowledge, terminology, or conveniences should not appear unless specifically established as existing within the world.
03. CHARACTERS NEED STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES• Modern technology, knowledge, terminology, or conveniences should not appear unless specifically established as existing within the world.
• Nobody is exceptionally skilled at everything. A character's abilities should reasonably reflect their history, experience, training, and established skill progression.
04. POKÉMON ARE LIVING CREATURES• Pokémon should be treated as living creatures with personalities, instincts, limitations, bonds, injuries, and individual behavior.
• Owning a Pokémon does not mean it becomes an unquestioning extension of its trainer.
05. OFFICIAL POKÉMON or FAKEMON ONLY• Owning a Pokémon does not mean it becomes an unquestioning extension of its trainer.
• Only official Pokémon or accepted Fakemon species may be used.
06. POKÉMON MUST BE LEGITIMATELY OBTAINED• Players may not simply add Pokémon to their character's possession. Pokémon must be obtained through the site's established capture, breeding, trading, event, or other approved systems.
• The same applies to evolutions, abilities, moves, held items, and other Pokémon progression.
07. MOVES ARE LEARNED THROUGH TRAINING• The same applies to evolutions, abilities, moves, held items, and other Pokémon progression.
• Knowing that a Pokémon species is capable of learning a move does not mean that an individual Pokémon knows how to perform it.
• Moves must be learned and developed according to the site's training system before they can be reliably used in active battle.
• Pokémon are not restricted to four known moves.
08. EVOLUTION IS NOT AUTOMATIC• Moves must be learned and developed according to the site's training system before they can be reliably used in active battle.
• Pokémon are not restricted to four known moves.
• Meeting the mechanical requirements for an evolution makes the Pokémon eligible to evolve. Evolution must still occur appropriately through roleplay and according to the site's Evolution System.
IV. PROGRESSION & RECORDS
01. PROGRESSION MUST BE EARNED
• Character skills, Pokémon experience, moves, bonds, items, currency, crafting materials, captures, and other resources cannot simply be added because a player believes their character should possess them.
• If something is governed by a game system, it must be obtained through that system.
02. ITEMS MUST EXIST BEFORE THEY CAN BE USED• If something is governed by a game system, it must be obtained through that system.
• Characters cannot conveniently produce weapons, medicine, food, tools, Pokéballs, crafting materials, or other useful items that are not actually present in their inventory or reasonably available within the scene.
03. SKILLS MATTER• A player's ability to describe an action does not automatically mean their character is capable of performing it.
• Hunting, crafting, medicine, combat, gathering, survival, and other specialized activities should reflect the character's established experience and skill progression.
• Failure, mistakes, and imperfect results are normal parts of progression.
04. FOLLOW THE INDIVIDUAL SYSTEM GUIDES• Hunting, crafting, medicine, combat, gathering, survival, and other specialized activities should reflect the character's established experience and skill progression.
• Failure, mistakes, and imperfect results are normal parts of progression.
• Battling, captures, hunting, gathering, crafting, skills, move training, evolution, bond, and other game mechanics have their own rules and procedures.
• The Forum Rules establish general expectations; the appropriate system guide determines how a specific mechanic functions.

VI. STAFF & MODERATION
01. STAFF ARE HERE TO FACILITATE THE GAME
• Staff members may moderate threads, award progression, resolve mechanical questions, enforce rules, and intervene when necessary to keep gameplay fair.
02. DO NOT MODERATE OTHER PLAYERS• If you believe another member has broken a rule, contact staff rather than confronting or policing the member yourself.
• Helping a new player understand a system is welcome. Acting as though you have staff authority when you do not is not.
03. MISTAKES CAN BE CORRECTED• Helping a new player understand a system is welcome. Acting as though you have staff authority when you do not is not.
• If experience, inventory, skills, Pokémon information, or another game resource is accidentally awarded or recorded incorrectly, staff may correct the mistake.
• An administrative error does not permanently entitle a player to something they were not supposed to receive.
04. CHEATING IS PROHIBITED• An administrative error does not permanently entitle a player to something they were not supposed to receive.
• Knowingly falsifying records, awarding yourself resources, manipulating outcomes, concealing relevant information from moderators, exploiting bugs, or otherwise circumventing progression systems may result in disciplinary action.
• If you discover an exploit or mistake, report it rather than taking advantage of it.
05. STAFF DECISIONS MAY BE QUESTIONED RESPECTFULLY• If you discover an exploit or mistake, report it rather than taking advantage of it.
• If you believe a decision was made incorrectly or do not understand a ruling, you are welcome to ask for clarification or request that the matter be reviewed.
• Disagreement itself is not misconduct. Harassment, personal attacks, repeatedly disrupting the community over a ruling, or deliberately ignoring a final decision may result in moderation.
06. RULES MAY BE UPDATED• Disagreement itself is not misconduct. Harassment, personal attacks, repeatedly disrupting the community over a ruling, or deliberately ignoring a final decision may result in moderation.
• Calpheon Wilds is a living game. Situations may arise that were not anticipated when these rules were written.

MOST IMPORTANTLY...
Calpheon Wilds is a collaborative RPG.
Characters will fail. Pokémon will lose battles.
Plans will go wrong. Resources may be scarce.
The wilderness will not always cooperate.
Those setbacks aren't punishments, they're opportunities to create a story.
Be fair to your fellow players, respect the world and its systems, and give everyone room to contribute to the adventure.
